Parallel Parking

When doing a parallel park behind a single parked car on a wide road with little traffic I feel confident in my ability to:

  • .

Check whether it would be safe, legal and convenient to complete this manoeuvre.

  • .

Move into a suitable starting position.

  • .

Prepare the car to move and take up effective all round observations, including blind spots, before I start.

  • .

Coordinate the controls in order to maintain a speed equivelant to a very slow crawling pace.

  • .

Pause occasionally, whilst maintaining control of my vehicle, to take effective all round observations and in particular before steering.

  • .

Use sufficient steering to the left to turn the vehicle diagonally towards the kerb once my rear wheels are in line with the back of the target vehicle.

  • .

Respond correctly to other road users and pedestrians.

More challenging circumstances

  • .

I feel confident in my ability to safely complete the manoeuvre under more testing circumstances on narrower roads, between parked vehicles and with the potential pressure of other road users.
